Lyrics
Walking on the road to Jerusalem,
(F)the time had come to sacrifice (C)again.
My two small (G)sons, they walked (Am)beside me on the road.
(F)The reason that they came (G)was to watch the (C)lamb.
"Daddy, Daddy, what will we see there?
(F)There's so much that we don't (C)understand."
So I told them of (G)Moses and (Am)Father Abraham,
(F)and then I said, "Dear (G)children,
watch the (C)lamb.
(Am)There will be so (C)many in (F)Jerusalem today.
(Am)We must be sure (C)the lamb (F)doesn't run away."
Then I (C)told them of (G)Moses (Am)and Father Abraham,
(F)and then I said, "Dear (G)children,
watch the (C)lamb."
(Db)When we reached the (Ab)city, I knew (Bbm)something must be (Db)wrong.
(Gb)There were no joyful (Ab)worshipers,
(Gb)no joyful worship songs.
I (Db)stood there with my (Ab)children in the midst of angry men,
(Gb)then I heard the crowd cry out,
"Crucify (Ab)Him!"
(Ab)We (Bbm)tried to leave the (Db)city,
but we could not get away.
(Bbm)Forced to play in this (Db)drama,
a part I did not wish to play.
(Ebm)Why upon this day were (Ab)men condemned to die?
(Ebm)Why were we (Gb)standing here, where (Ab)soon they would pass by?
I (Db)looked and said,
(Bbm)"Even now they come."
(Gb)The first one cried for mercy;
the people gave him none.
The (Db)second one was (Ab)violent, he was arrogant and loud.
(Gb)I still can hear his angry voice
screaming at the (Ab)crowd.
Then (Bbm)someone said, "There's (Db)Jesus,"
(Gb)and I scarce believed my eyes.
(Bbm)A man so badly (Db)beaten,
(Gb)He barely looked alive.
(Ebm)Blood poured from His body, from the thorns upon His brow,
running down the cross (Ab)and falling to the ground.
I (Db)watched Him as He (Ab)struggled,
