It listens to your real piano

No cable and no app. Your phone, tablet or computer hears the notes you play through its microphone, waits for you, and moves on when you get it. Try it right now.

The notes you play show up here, as big as this.

The sound stays on your device. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.

Getting the best out of it

Get closeNear the piano is what matters most. If the level hardly moves, move closer or tap "Mic" to turn it up.
Headphones helpAnything your device plays through its speaker can be heard as a note. In the steps where you play, it stays quiet for you.
One note at a time is bestA tune is what it hears most clearly. In a chord it can miss a note, so it does not ask to hear every one before it moves on.
Stay in the middleThe middle of the keyboard is where it hears best. The very top octave is often missed.

Questions

Do I need to plug anything in?

No. It uses the microphone already in your phone, tablet or computer. There is no cable and no app to install.

Does it record me?

No. The sound is worked out on your own device and never leaves it. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent to us.

What kind of piano does it work with?

A real piano, or a digital piano or keyboard with its speakers on. If you can hear it in the room, it can try.

What if it does not hear a note?

Play it again, a little firmer. If that keeps happening, move the device closer or tap "Mic" on the bar to turn up its hearing.

How do I know it is listening?

The bar at the top of Practice turns dark with a red dot, a moving level and the notes it just heard. The browser tab shows a microphone too. When it is off, the bar says so.

Does it cost anything?

Listening is free on every song.

Where does it listen?

In Practice, where it can wait for you. Full song, Leadsheet and Sing along play on the screen, and you can play along without it.

Can I use it without a real piano?

Yes. Leave the microphone off and play the keys on your screen or your computer keyboard.
