The Syncopated Clock

There (C)was a man like (G)you and me,

as simple as a (C)man could ever be;

and he was happy (G)as a king,

(Dm)except for one (G)peculiar (C)thing.

He had a clock that (G)worked all right.

It worked all right, but (C)not exactly quite;

instead of going (G)"tick, tock, tick,"

the (Dm)crazy clock went (G)culiar (C)thing.

He (G)"tock, tick, (C)tock!"

The (F)poor old man just (Em7)raved and (A7)raved,

(Dm)because (G7)nobody could (C)say (Dm)why his (E)silly clock (Am)behaved that (D7)hickory dickory (G)way.

But (C)now a famous (G)man is he.

He owns a public (C)curiosity;

from far and wide the (G)people flock to (Dm)hear the (G)syncopated (C)clock.

(Gm7)Tick (F)tock, tick (C7)tock.

There's zing in the swing of that (F)clock.

Tock (A7)tick, tock (Dm)tick.

Don't you (G)think it's a marvelous (C)trick?

Ting (F)ling, ting (C7)ling.

There's zong in the bong of that (F)ring.

Ling (A7)ting, ling (Dm)ting.

Don't you (G)think it's a marvelous (C)trick?

Ting (Ddim)think it's a wonderful (G)thing?

The (C)experts came to (G)hear and see,

but none of them could (C)solve the mystery.

They called Professor (G)Einstein, too.

He (Dm)said "There's nothing (G)I can (C)do!"

But soon the fickle (G)human race will find another (C)freak to take its place,

and one fine day the (G)man will hock the (Dm)poor old synco (G)I can (C)do!"

But (G)pated (C)clock.
