The Night Before Christmas

It was the (Bm7)night (A)before (D)Christmas,

it seemed and (Bm7)all through (A)the (D)world

(Bm7)ev'rything looked like (F#m)bus'ness as (G)usual.

Shepherds (Bm7)sat on (A)a (D)hillside

looking (Bm7)up at (A)the stars

(D)the while the (Bm7)world fell asleep,

(Gsus2)while (Bm7)unaware just how (Gmaj7)deep

(Gsus2)was the (Em9)darkness the (Gmaj7)night before (Bm7)Christmas.

(D)And the (Bm7)night (A)before (D)Christmas,

it seemed to (Bm7)be just (A)a (D)night,

but the (Bm7)wind blew like (F#m)something was (G)coming.

al. And like (Bm7)children (A)with (D)secrets

that they're (Bm7)bursting (A)to tell,

(D)the cedars (Bm7)danced in the breeze,

(Gsus2)while all of (Bm7)nature, it (Gmaj7)seemed,

(Gsus2)held its (Em9)breath on the (Gmaj7)night before (Bm7)Christmas.

(D)And the (A)And (Bm)hope, (E)hope long (A)awaited,

the (D)hope of the (C)(G)ages would (Em7)break with the dawn.

(F#7)And the (Bm)song that (E)all of (A)creation

was (D)(C)(G)anticipating would (Gm)start with a baby's first (A)cry.

(A)And on the night before (Bm7)Christmas,

(D)Mary (Bm7)laid down (A)to (D)rest,

while (Bm7)Joseph, he (F#m)paced the floor (G)praying.

(Gsus2)And in an (Bm7)ev'ryday (A)(D)stable

in an (Bm7)ev'ryday (A)town,

(D)in the (Bm7)hours to come

(Gmaj7)God would (Bm7)wrap Himself (Gmaj7)up

and (Bm7)come down from (F#m)heaven,

and the (Gmaj7)world would (D)forever be (Em9)changed

(Gsus2)after the night before Christmas.
