The Downeaster "Alexa"

Well I'm (C)on the (G)Downeaster Alexa,

and I'm (C)cruising through (G)Block Island Sound.

I have chartered a course to the Vineyard.

But tonight I am Nantucket bound.

(F)We took on (G)diesel back in Montauk yesterday,

and left this morning there, but bell where,

in Gar on diner's Bay.

Like all the lo cals here are I've what to sell my home,

too proud got to no is back worked on my land (Am)fingers to the bone,

so I could (C)own my (G)Downeaster Alexa,

and I (C)go where the (G)ocean is deep.

There are giants out there in the canyons.

And a good captain can't fall asleep.

(F)I I got (G)bills to pay and children who need clothes.

I know there's fish out as a bell bay God Gar an dily knows.

They say these lo ters for a n't man they used to be.

But proud ain't to no island worked for my (Am)isgers to the bone,
