Lyrics
Laura and Tommy were (Eb)lovers;
he (Bb)wanted to give her (Eb)ev'rything:
(Dm)Flowers, (Eb)presents, and (F)most of all,
a wedding ring!
(Bb)He saw a sign for a (Eb)stock car race;
(Bb)a thousand dollar (Eb)prize, it read.
He (Dm)couldn't get Laura (Eb)on the phone,
so (F)to her mother
Tommy said:
(Bb)"Tell Laura I love her!
Tell Laura I (Cm)need her!
Tell Laura I (Bb)may be late,
I've (Eb6)something to do that (F7)cannot (Bb)wait."
He drove his car to the (Eb)racing grounds;
(Bb)he was the youngest (Eb)driver there.
(Dm)The crowd roared as they (Eb)started the race;
'round the (F)track they drove at a deadly pace!
(Bb)No one knows what (Eb)happened that day,
(Bb)how his car (Eb)overturned in flames,
but (Dm)as they pulled him from the (Eb)twisted wreck,
with his (F)dying breath, they heard him say:
(Bb)"Tell Laura I love her!
Tell Laura I (Cm)need her!
Tell Laura (Bb)not to cry, my (Eb6)love for her will (F7)never (Bb)die!"
Now, in the chapel
(Eb)Laura prays (Bb)for her Tommy who (Eb)passed away.
It was (Dm)just for Laura he (Eb)lived and died;
(F)alone in the chapel she can hear him cry:
