Streetsinger

He took the (Eb)street alone, just an (Fm)old coat and a (Cm)saxophone.

(Bbm7)An ol' beatup (Fm7)cardboard sign,

(Bbm7)that's what his (Db)name (Eb)was scrawled (Ab)upon.

My name was (Eb)up in lights;

(Fm)his soul lit (Cm)up the night.

(Bbm7)A voice on a (Fm7)sidewalk stage,

(Bbm7)he held the (Db)crowd (Eb)amazed.

(Fm)And the sounds that he (Dbmaj7)played

(Fm)were tender and (Dbmaj7)strong,

(Cbmaj7)then he (Fbmaj7)sang

his (Db)song.

(Eb)I can (Ab)see the (Eb)sun

(Db)peekin' out through them (Ab)clouds.

(Ab7)I can (Db)hear a (Eb)choir of (Ab)sparrows

(Bbm7)singin' out from them (Db)trees.

There's a (Ab)new (Eb)constellation

(Db)and I'm singin' it out (Ab)loud.

(Ab7)A (Db)change is (Eb)on the (Fm)way.

(Cm7)I can (Db)feel it (Eb)in (Ab)me.

(Db)On (Ab)a street in the (Eb)heart of town,

a (Fm)cold wind,

the (Cm)sun goes down,

(Bbm7)a crowd starts to (Fm7)gather 'round (Bbm7)and he's singing for (Db)free.

(Ab)A soul that can (Eb)move the stars sleeps on (Fm)sidewalks and (Cm)subway cars.

(Bbm7)The prince of the (Fm7)boulevard (Bbm7)and he's down on his (Db)knees.

(Eb)There was (Fm)hope, joy and (Db9)pain

(Fm)in (Db9)ev'ry refrain

(Cbmaj7)when he (Fbmaj7)sang his song (Db)again.

(Eb)Now we (Ab)all (Eb)are sinners (Db)if we look inside (Ab)ourselves.

(Ab7)And (Db)love can (Eb)save the (Ab)wretched

(Bbm7)from life's own (Db)misery.

We are (Ab)born in his (Eb)goodness;

we can (Db)share in his (Ab)wealth.

(Ab7)A (Db)change is (Eb)on the (Fm)(Cm7)wayayayay,

(Db)I can (Eb)feel it for (Ab)you.

(Bbm7)And the (Db)street (Eb)singer

(Eb)showed me that (Fm)life ain't (Cm7)fair.

(Db)Some people go (Eb)far and (Cm7)some go (Fm)nowhere.

(Bbm7)Some live with (Eb)love and (Edim7)some never (Fm)do.

And a (Db7)change is on the (Ab)way.
