Streets of Bakersfield

I came here looking for (D)something

(E7)I couldn't find anywhere (A)else.

Hey, I'm not try'ng to be (D)nobody,

(E7)just want a chance to be (A)myself.

I've done a thousand miles of (D)thumbin',

(E7)don't I've worn holes in both my (A)heels,

Try'ng to find me as something (D)better

(E7)and I headed on the streets of (A)Bakersfield.

Oh, you don't know me but you don't (D)like me.

(E7)You say you care less how I (A)feel.

But how many of you that sit and (D)judge me (E7)have ever walked the streets of (A)Bakersfield?

Spent some time in San (D)Francisco,

(E7)I spent a night there in the (A)can.

They threw this drunk man in my (D)jail cell,

(E7)took fifteen dollars from that (A)man.

Left him my watch and my old (D)house (E7)key,

don't want folks thinkin' that I'd (A)steal.

Then I thanked him as I was (D)leaving,

(E7)and I headed for the streets of (A)Bakersfield.

Oh, you don't know me but you don't (D)like (E7)me.

You say you care less how I (A)feel.

But how many of you that sit and (D)judge me (E7)have ever walked the streets of (A)Bakersfield?

field? field?

How many of you that sit and (D)judge me (E7)have everwalked the streets of (A)Bakersfield?
