Jack's Obsession

Something's up with Jack, (Cm)something's up with Jack.

(Cm)Don't know if we're ever going to get him back.

(G7)He's all alone up there, locked away inside.

(Cm)Never says a word.

(G)Hope he hasn't died!

(Cm)Something's up with Jack!

(G)Something's up with Jack!

(Cm)Christmastime is buzzing (G7)in my skull.

Will it let me be?

I (Cm)cannot tell.

There're so many things I (Bb7)cannot grasp.

When I think I've got it,

(Eb)then at last

through my bony fingers (G7)it does slip

like a snowflake in a (Cm)fiery grip.

Something here I'm not quite getting.

Though I try, I keep forgetting.

(Fm)Like a mem'ry, (D7)long since past.

(G)Here in an instant, gone in a flash.

(Cm)What does it mean?

(G)What does it mean?

(Cm)In these little bricabrac, a (Ab7)secret's waiting (D7)to be cracked.

These (G7)dolls and toys (Ebdim7)confuse me so,

(G7)confound it all, I (Cm)love it though.

(Ebm)Simple objects, nothing more.

But something's hidden through a door,

(Abm)though I do not (F7)have the key.

(Bb)Something's here I cannot see.

What does it mean?

What does it mean?

(Ebm)What does it mean?

(Abdim)I've (Ebm)read these Christmas books so (Bb7)many times.

I know the stories and I (Ebm)know the rhymes.

I know the Christmas carols (Db)all by heart.

My (Db7)skull's so full it's tearing (Gb)me apart.

As often as I've read them,

(Bb7)something's wrong.

So hard to put my bony (Ebm)finger on.

Or perhaps it's really not as deep as I've been led to think.

(Abm)Am I trying (F7)much too hard?
