It Wasn't His Child

He was her man,

(Bb)she was his (Ab)wife.

And late (Bb)one (Cm)(Bb)winter (Eb)night, he knelt by her,

(Gm)as she gave birth,

but it wasn't his (F7sus)child,

(F7)it wasn't his (Ab)child.

(Eb)Yet still he took him as his (Ab)own,

and as (Bb)he (Cm)watched (Bb)him (Eb)grow,

it brought him joy.

(Gm)He loved that boy,

but it wasn't his (F7sus)child,

(F7)it (Eb)wasn't his (Ab)child.

(Cm)And like his father, he was strong (Ab)and kind and good.

And I (Eb)believe he did his (Bbsus2)best.

(Cm)It wasn't easy for him, but (Ab)he did all he could.

His son was (Eb)diff'rent from the (Bbsus2)rest.

(Bb)It wasn't his (Ab)child,

it wasn't his (F7sus)child.

(Cm)He grew up with his hands in wood.

And he (F7)died

with his (Ab)hands in wood.

He was God's child,

(Bb)He was God's

child.

(Eb)He was her man,

(Bb)she was his (Ab)wife

and late (Bb)one (Cm)(Bb)winter (Eb)night, he knelt by her (Bb)as she gave birth,

but it wasn't his (F7sus)child.

(F7)It was God's child.
