Fireflies

You would not believe your eyes if ten million firening flies as lit up the world as I fell asleep.

'Cause they'd fill the open air and leave teardrops ev'rywhere.

You'd think me rude but I would just stand and stare.

(Ab)I'd like to make myself believe that planet earth (Eb)turns (Gm)(Ab)slowly.

It's hard to say that I'd (Eb)rather stay (Ab)awake when I'm (Cm)asleep.

'Cause (Ab)ev'rything is (Eb)never as it seems.

'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs from ten thousand lightning bugs as they tried to teach as me how to dance;

a fox trot above my head,

a sock hop beneath my bed,

a disco ball that's just hanging by a thread.

(Ab)I'd like to make myself believe that planet earth (Eb)turns (Gm)(Ab)slowly.

It's hard to say that I'd (Eb)rather stay (Ab)awake when I'm (Cm)asleep.

'Cause (Ab)ev'rything is (Eb)never as it seems when I fall asleep.

(Bb)Leave my door (Eb)open just a (Ab)crack (Please take me away from (Bb)here.)

'cause I feel like (Eb)such an insomniac.

(Please take me away from (Bb)here.)

Why do I tire of counting (Ab)sheep (Please take me away from (Bb)here.)

when I'm far too (Eb)tired to fall (Ab)asleep?

(Bb)To ten million (Eb)fireflies (Ab)I'm weird 'cause I hate goodbyes.

(Bb)I got misty eyes as they said farewell.

But I'll know where (Eb)sev'ral are (Ab)if my dreams get real bizarre,

'cause I saved a few and I keep them in a jar.

(Ab)I'd like to make myself believe that planet earth (Eb)turns (Gm)(Ab)slowly.

(Ab)Because my dreams are (Eb)bursting at the seams.
