Begin The Beguine

(C)When they begin

(C6)the (Cmaj7)Beguine (C6)it (C)brings back the (C6)sound of music so (G7)tender,

it brings back a night of tropical (F)(Fmaj7)splendor,

it (G)brings back a memory ever (C)green.

I'm with you once (C6)more under the (Cmaj7)stars,

(C6)and (C)down by the (Cmaj7)shore an orchestra's (G7)playing,

and even the palms seem to be (F)(Fmaj7)swaying

(G)when they begin the (C)Beguine.

To (Cm)live it again is past all (Bb)endeavor,

(Bbm)except when that tune (Eb7)clutches my (Abmaj7)heart,

and (Adim7)there we are, (F#dim7)swearing to love (G)forever,

(Ab)and promising (G)never, (Fm7)never to (G)part.

What (C)moments divine, what rapture (Cmaj7)serene,

(C6)till (C)clouds come along to (C7)disperse the joys we had (G7)tasted.

And (Dm7)now when I hear people curse the chance that was wasted,

I (G)know but too well what they (C)mean.

So, don't let them begin the (Cmaj7)Beguine.

Let the (C)love that was once a fire remain an (G)ember,

let it (F)sleep like the dead (Dm7)desire I only (Em7)remember,

(Dm7)when they begin

(G)the (C)Beguine.

Oh yes, let them begin the (C6)Beguine,

make them (Cmaj7)play

(C6)till the (C)stars that were there before return (G)above you,

till you (F)whisper to me once (Dm)more,

"Darling, I (Em)love you,"

(A7)and we (Dm7)suddenly know what heaven we're in;

(G)when they begin the (C)(Cmaj7)Beguine, (Dm7)when they begin

(G7)the (C)Beguine.
